Abalone season changes.

Read in the paper about the changes to the abs season.  First Sunday of Nov, Dec, Jan, Fed and March only 7-8am.  So that is a total of 5 hrs spreads over 5 months.  What are you views on it?

Guess that was the majority

Guess that was the majority answer from the survey that asked the question. Not that fussed either way, I'll grab them in the metro area if I happen to be getting crays at the time but if I really want some its not too hard to take the kids for a picnic and a snorkel down the cape.

Good in that I like fresh

Good in that I like fresh abs, but bad in that if its just one weekend a month, the others might show a bit more commitment to the season that just the first few.

Isn't the lowest lows usually around Nov? Probably a few more drownings if there is less reef sticking out of the water than usual.

Checked yesterday

Wed, 2011-09-28 22:57

I checked yesterday, and today its all changed .

Dosn't bother me too much as i don the wetty and mask to get them. But the reef walkers arn't going to be happy.

At the end of the day i hope the Ab's are there forever and fisheries are doing the right thing.

That sucks if you do FIFO and it doesn't line up on your roster.

this doesn't effect us.

Couldn't think of anything worse than crawling around metro reefs with 2914856 other mad buggers.

1st Oct - 15th May for us

Heatwave

Thu, 2011-09-29 08:48

The season changes are due to the extended presence of the warm currents last year. Affected the abs big time with high mortality and heavily reduced stocks .....
