Off topic banter

Hey Guys,
After a long days fishing yesterday and a fair few hours in the water today I get back on the site to see what has been happening and am a little disappointed with what I have read.
I don't like having to step in and ruin the fun, but this is a fishing website and will remain that way. All of us get a little frustrated by reading off topic and sometimes pointless posts and I am lenient to the extent that I will allow stuff to go on until it gets to the point of ridiculous. Which is certainly what a few of the posts were!!
I hope you all understand that this needed to be done to maintain Fishwrecked's standards of being W.A's best fishing website.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please PM or email me:

Cheers,
Adam

I'm happy to dedicate time away from my own shop duties to help FW members. Answering questions, recommend stuff and going the extra step in aid of helping members. It's never been a shop motivated thing as i've been on websites helping people for many years prior to Oceanside.

What i have "no time for" is dribble crap in Fishing Websites, i'm way to busy for that!

Well done to FW and Adam, a good website and lets move on

This is just a reminder that this is a fishing website and one I like to consider as one of the better ones around. We are very liberal with what content we allow considering the amount of younger members viewing this site daily.

If certain members continue to play about and disturb the peace then they can find themselves using another website. I'm sick of having member's good threads and contributions sidetracked by offtopic banter.  Andy, Tim and myself will be deleting these comments without warning and will, if need be, suspend accounts. I don't want to have to be a nazi moderator, but I will at all costs protect the interests of this site and its members.

Cheers,

Adam

Yeh guys, its a general notice but also does apply to some of the comments been put up recently.  Bit strange to see new 'porn spam' user accounts with Western Australian IP addresses... Wink

Just a reminder to everyone that threatening another member is not tolerated on this site.  The recent cray fishing thread has been very volatile and there has been some heated discussion, which has now degraded into a slanging match where nothing constructive will result.  I have disabled the comments and locked the thread based upon the last 23 comments having nothing to do with the actual thread and being well and truly off topic banter where members have copped unwarranted abuse.

This sort of behaviour isn't tolerated, if you want to have a written joust, head over to hotfight or fishing WA as I won't accept it here.  This site is about FISHING, not your origins, who's grandma banged who from which convict colony or anything along those lines.

I hope you all manage to get some fishing time in over the long weekend and enjoy time with those that matter.

Cheers,

Adam

Totally agree

Those of us that have seen other sites go down the drain because of posts that degenerate into either slanging matches, intimidation or abuse, know why this is such a strong issue. Frown

but that whole thread went pear shaped when someone didn't like someone else's opinion. We take part in this forum and people have to respect other peoples opinions, like it or not. I would hope the main offenders get a PM to remind them off this, if that's me so be it.

If I said something I shouldnt Then I appologise although it is easy to get off topic on these threads just one little comment on a post the next one takes it a bit further and before you know we have a slanging match.

Cool guys, cheers for the responses.  You are on the money three lions, its about respecting each others opinions and that seemed to degenerate very quickly in the last few posts.

In regards to Australia vs England, the Ashes are on again soon, as will the next Union test..  Let the sporting fields decide, rather than the fishing forums. Laughing

General Warning re explicit language and sexual innuendo!!!!

Thu, 2008-05-15 17:40

This is getting very frustrating for the moderators, with more posts and threads having to be deleted recently.
PLEASE CAN WE ALL REFRAIN FROM USING ANY SEXUALLY EXPLICIT OR IMPLICIT LANGUAGE NO MATTER HOW FUNNY WE THINK IT MIGHT BE.
This site does not have an automatic swear word eliminator, so it would be appreciated if we all self moderate in this regard as well.
Furthermore this is not a private chat room for mates to take the mickey out of each other with innuendo after innuendo. Go join MSN if that's what you want to do. Leave this site to talking about fishing please, or at the very least keep it clean.
With the site growing as fast as it has it is impossible for the three moderators to read every post, so I am sure there are plenty of posts that have slipped through the net.
I need not remind you all that we have many children on this site as both active members and casual viewers. We also have sponsors too, so lets not degrade the fantastic community facility this website has become by continually pushing the language boundaries for a few cheap laughs.
With over 2.6m hits a month this site is a lot bigger than you might think. Wilst a few hundred members dominate the forum boards there are many many thousands more that read but don't post.
I don't like being the fun police but we have broader interests to protect here, so I trust you all understand when I say that we will not hesitate to ban repeat offenders if this issue persists.

Cheers

Andy Mac

Your not wrong on the size and spread of this site I regularly get Emails or PM's from people all over the world asking about jigging, seems I'm allways talking jigging with someone from somewhere on this planet , and I love it , jigging may not be new here but it is really firing overseas and people want to get in on this type of fishing.

I wouldn't want people leaving because of off topic banter and sledging.

maybe

Thu, 2008-05-15 23:11

maybe the moderators could start a section on the site for "info" about different types of fishing and get guys like maverick to do one on jigging someone else that can do one for catching dhue another for snapper another on fly fishing etc etc.......

i know i wouldn't mind knowing more about "learning how to cast with overheads"

i know moderators are busy but just a thought...

Guys just a reminder that this is a fishing site, theres been a lot of off topic banter which has been spreading like wildfire.  I don't mind if you keep the discussion all in one thread, but lately serious threads have been getting subverted to the detriment of the original poster.

I know a few of you guys are looking to boost user points, but if the spammy comments continue, you might find yourself loosing a few....  Dont mean to be the fun police, but I was starting to get a few calls from unhappy members.

Cheers,

Adam
