Cray pots at the five
Submitted by feral1975 on Sat, 2008-10-11 20:32.
Just a question , I didn't think the cray season had started? But going out offshore on Wednesday out from woodies after we went over the five fathom we hit our first north to south line of pots as far as we could see each day , another roughly half a kilometre out ans there was another line , same markers as the others , any idea's

Research
Yeah mate, each year fisheries tender some boats along the coast for research. They do it each year along the same lines so they can compare seasons and predicted catch rates.

Absolutely
The situation is quite sticky at the moment. There are a lot of nervous people out there at the moment. We complain as rec fisherman about the situation, what about if it was livlihood? Having said that, didnt hear em winge when they were slaying it. Oh by the way, the crays live another day

Line of floats
Could possibly be occy pots. They run a longline set up with poly pipe tubes hanging off the mainline on 2 metre leaders about 20/30 metre intervals. Not sure how long they leave it between pulls, probably 1-2 weeks, giving enough time for the occy to establish itself in its new home

i reckon its aliens trying
i reckon its aliens trying to outsource new produce, cos their inter-galactic crop of crays is diminishing. plus, the global stock market crash has resulted in higher cray costs for our little green friends, so its little wonder they're trying to poach from our earth waters.
worst thing is, our government knows about it man.
