faulkner trip PART 3 THE DAY OF THE REDS
Day 7 Thursday 10th July Well today was a late start due to having to change the winch rope ( many thanks to bluewater tackle who had the tool and expertise to get the old one off and the new onw on) so on the water by 10 am and off to the north end of Murion Islands to troll for Mackie’s got a few hits to start with one bite off ,then wack the reel started screaming hooked one really nice Mackie Brenden had a great fight on his hands but 1 to him 0 to the Mackie it weigh 7 kg and 110 cm so a nice fish and a first for Brenden
After a few more hits but no hook ups we ventured out to the 50 mtrs mark nothing their so out we go back to the 60 mtrs and with in 2 mins of our lines hitting the bottom Russell got hit a really nice size Gold Spot travelley(released) around 3.5 kg then next drop bang hit again with a nice size Ranken Cod then two nice size reds

At the same time young Nathans hooked up on a nice size Rankin cod
And Sandy got a double hook up of Rankin Cod one went 6kg 75 cm at the same time what a wonderful place to fish and see the sights from sea snakes , whales jumping dolphins and turtles popping there heads out to say hi
Oh I forgot to mention Dollys swimming around the boat to boot Brenden tried to get a hook up he got one on for a few mins then they were gone it was a sight to remember all the great colours and flowing fins just circling the boat look like they were checking us out *LOL*All of this in only 4 hours it sure is a privilege to be part of wonderful place even if it only for two weeks.Well we decided to call it a day as we had released around 11 fish as we had enough for us but we might try our hand at trolling home, when Nathan still to pull up his line caught this giant Red Emperor 4.8 kg 66 cm the face says it all I BEAT DAD ha ha
It is a great way to finish a four hour fishing day when you get out fished by your 15 year old ha ha ha
Day 7 Friday 11th July Meant to have been an early start but sleep got the better of us *lol* so on the water by 9 am. The weather was absolutely wonderful no wind at all so out to the 60 mtrs again but to try a new spot we had found the day before . On the way out Russell had to do rigs and hooks as got heaps of bite off the day before (not sharks but big reds or cod ) so going to use heavier breaking strain line.
Got out here after trying to catch a few tuna on the way but they wore not playing ball oh well that’s fishing. The lines had just hit the bottom when bang sandy was on with a nice size Rankin cod then nothing tried for a about half and hour more then moved on not to far tho
Not to long after we had our lines down Nathan hook up
The look on his face says it all man this feels big but no it was a small gold spot travelley But they sure put up a great fight then returned happily to the sea
Then wack Brenden was on to a nice size fish
It was a nice size long nose emperor 69cm and 3.5 kg put up a great fight
We then moved as we caught a few more under size fish all released successfully We went a bit deeper and got a few red throat emperor then wham the reds arrived he he heFirst sandy was on with a 8kg 78 cm red emperor
Then another just a bit smaller not by much tho
Then Nathan got two but did not want a pic taken as he had the best one yesterday then Brenden was on to two nice Reds
& Russell got a smaller one what a day of Red but with 7 nice sizes reds on board we decided to call it a day even tho there was still no wind what a great day in paradise more whales and large sea snakes bathing in the sun
We could not resist a bit of a troll past the reef on the way in only got two school mackie’s but good fun

Another good report Russ. I see your getting creative with your pics.
The one of Sandy with the 8kg red came out good. So did the close up of Nath and Brendans Mac.
