Back early with a feed Again.
Went out to a spot we pinged on the way back in yesterday and done ok again, we left the ramp at 7am and got our four dhuies by 9.45 so headed back into the sound for "whatever". Five drifts over our new lump produced 4 size dhuies, a skippy and a couple of dropped fish again.
Al makes a mental note here to attatch rope to sea anchor before throwing it out
at least boofhead had a laugh and got some gaffing experience
Once we hit the sound the wind dropped off and it all glassed out, bloody beautiful it was, we had squid hitting jigs and herring going nuts on SP's and had a ball for a few hours before calling it a day.
Her's a few pics.
Boofheads first dhuie.

Boofheads leather jacket from the sound.

My Okta Jig sure straightened out this nice 11kg dhuie

Finally some turf.

Thanks for joining me today Boofhead, top day with good company.
Al.

Both.
Bit of both mate, just drop the jig down and stick the rod in a holder and use bait on another rod.
Oktas have caught me about half the dhuies I've got so far, a few of us have been doing nicely on the jigs of late.
Goat, Sorry bout the attitude...
Staal, BAAAHAGHAHAHA
Brett, I'll get you out in a week or so mate.

What Ever
weight it takes to keep it away from the bottom rigs. Strong winds 300/10kn maybe 150-200!!! They are cheapish too $18 for the 300

Nice work
Good on you Al, you're making light work of this dhuey business aren't you... bit of a magnet by the looks of things!
:)
You've got at least me convinced that it's worth having a Homerheaded alien swaying in the breeze down there... floater style...

Agree with Staal.
but mostly use 200 or 300 gram "HomerHeads" I like the jig to hit the ground before the bait does, also using a softer rod seems to help them with action when left in the rod holder.

G'day Guys,
New to the forum so G'day.
Have had some success with the okta jigs recently aswell......the dhuies seem to like them.
Does anyone know if you can buy replacement skirts for these jigs as mine are look a bit naked now?

Welcome
Welcome Grubs, good to have you onboard. Top question coz I've been wondering the same.
To counter it for the mean time I've been buying the cheap skirts that you can make up on your own, trimming the skirt parts off and gluing them to the head and then putting a lackie band around them to keep them on. (I think you could probably also tie line around them to keep them in place if the glue starts wearing thin.) Seems to be working as a make shift solution to being stripped bare!
Cheers,
Adam

Those cheap rubbery trolling
Those cheap rubbery trolling squids would work fine, but I'd probably just use a little zip tie to secure it, easy to snip off once another skirt needs to go on, and nice n quick for on the spot changes if required.
I'll ask the rep next time I see him about the replacement skirts for the Okta's, I do know that Shimano are going to have replacement skirts for their "Lucanus" range of Octopus style jigs once they are released into stores.

We have some Shout spare
We have some Shout spare skirts in stock. Probably not big enough for the 300gm models, but anything smaller they are tops for. New R2S Octo Snipers look sweet can't wait to try em.
