Wacky? new fishing idea

The guys at work and I were standing around discussing important things like fishing and golf. And we thought there may be an opportunity to combine the two. Using a special rod holder, and with a golf ball attached to your line, youcould practice your golf swing by cracking drives off of the top of a groyne wall - and at the same time get your bait out a bit further. The ball would act as your sinker. Any thoughts?

Murdered swimmers
Interesting idea #1, but if I did that, say at Cottesloe, Brighton etc, there would be a lot of murdered swimmers about.

A sand iron would work nicely for beach fishing, Steve and if you play golf like me, Colin, I wouldn't want to be standing anywhere within range.

i dunno about you colin but
i dunno about you colin but i dont fancy using my driver anywhere near a rock...it will cost a new fishing reel each trip.
But fancy being able to cast 250-300m...watch out salmon =)

I used to pick up cheap drivers at Salvo shops and the like
But I certainly wouldn't want to hit the ground with my club as I was driving. Your arm would be sore for awhile.

Only a crazy idea (children please do not try this at home)
I have a friend in NZ who is into kite fishing and such. And I remember when people used to use slingshots for getting their gear out. Why not a golf ball.
And Tony and Daisy, you sound like you are in my league at hitting a golf ball.

Hmm might be ok for lures but that could be a bit much acceleration for bait. I did have another idea though.
How about one of those airspray and potato cannons? But instead of potato you cast a rigged mulie into some berley and freeze it, with just a swivel hanging out or something. Next, you attach your mainline to the swivel sticking out and pop it down the barrel. Light it up and shoot your bait to 200m out, completely with berley cloud.
Ok, back to my paperwork =(

Not bad till
I have seen aborignal guys fishing with handlines who made up a sinker out of mud, about the size of a tennis ball. Then they threw the mud ball as far as they could. The mud would disolve in the water and they would have an unweighted bait out far father than they could have tossed it on their handlines. They were geniuses those guys. Coke bottles for handline holders. Mud sinkers.They could catch fish when nobody else could.

That sound's like a great idea - I remember firing spuds at least 250m and even then they would still break fence picket. I might give it a go of a beach down south one day...

I don't think you'd need to. Done spectacularly enough, it would get plenty of media coverage - especially the potatoe gun.
Then there's cannons with 'various materials' or tie the line to a bolt bomb
. Not that I dabbled with those

You can also do it with a kite (U-tube kite fishing).
Here is a idea !! practice your casting and get better.

Jesse has a spud gun we made
Jesse has a spud gun we made up for a bit of fun ,took that down the beach one night, put a spud in it then dropped the sinker and ganged mulie in, and fired it. Went no further than a good cast but was good fun. i think with some fine tuning it could work quite well..

Remote boat had a servo the release the bait at a flick of a button.

Interesting
It would have to be a fairly flat sea, river or lake for the remote controlled boat. But in the right conditons I guess the only thing controlling how far you would go is the radio reception. I know a reef off Hillarys I wouldn;t mind getting a line out to.

Better idea
Colin, why don't you just hang a hook off the back of the golf ball, drive it out and then reel it back in. Golf/spin fishing all in the one. You can use the fluoro balls to try and tempt fussy fish

Nothing wrong with balloons
Have drifted a balloon out 200 metres and pulled out the 22 rifle and shot it,allowing bait to drop to bottom to catch dhuies from shore down south.
