Howdy Guys n Gals,
I have decided to suspend the user point system for comments from here on in and until further notice. You can still obtain comments from forums and images, just not for responses.

they dont mean anything to me ,i have messed a bit posting comments but generally i only comment if its worth a comment,cheers adam for a great site anyway you are doing a great job keeping control of things ,must take time .i think we can all respect that

I personally dont get off on the points but i think its a good thing to see who the top 5 or so users are for new comers. i get a few pms regarding comments that newbies want to ask about or want some info about. they pm me i suppose because my names up there. thats got to be good hey? Do my little bit here and there

I think you would loose half the spam if you dropped the random image. I like the random image but it invites the newbies to reserect old posts.
Post counts are meaningless to me. Do what you like with them.

i like the what spess says.... the idea that seeing who is the top 5 or maybe the top 10 just for the reason that the newbies know who is in the know and who to ask certain questions..... i know that if i want to ask a question the top guys are the ones who seem to know the answers...... recently i asked colin hay a question directly and got the response pretty damn quick.... always good to know i'm gunna get an answer asap some times...thanks colin #1

A s to a replacement? I like the idea of an ASSISTANCE list - can then break it down to Admin/Moderators (list them with a generic contact too) Site Help (people to contact etc) - that sought of stuff.
Without wishing to offend anyone, I too agree with Noah's comment about Random Images. I think they should be kept, (beacuse it's interesting what pops up from time to time) but perhaps each (just an idea, if technically possible) post should have a 'response life' - say 1,2 or 3 months. Whatever is deemed appropriate.

It would seem that not too many people are too fussed with 'no point for responses'. I guess what concerns me more, the reason for suspending them? Are too many people unhappy about certain responses, too many responses, too much banter etc? I know it's a difficult issue, because different people will want different things out of a forum.
BANTER - Not saying this is an issue, but my spin:
Some would see 'too much banter' as distracting or even unnecessary, but how do you define 'too much banter'. Personally, I like some banter - I think most of us do it from time to time. IMO, it gives 'life' to a forum and (hopefully) provides some humour. Without being dramatic, I've almost stopped going to one forum I used to go to because it got too serious and 'dry'.
RESPONDING - Also not saying this is an issue, but:
I try and make some comment in most threads, especially those showing good fish captures. I don't do this to 'rack up points' , just to be (what I see as) polite. There's been a lot of captures picks lately (which is great!) because of the trips (which are GREAT to read about). So, I've responded a lot.
This isn't intended to sound defensive, just to stimulate discussion on the 'illness' rather than 'treatment of the symptom'.
I could have PM'ed you Adam but I think there's benefits of having this in the public domain. Personally, I think it would be helpfull to know your feelings on this?
