Awesome fun getting a big fish on light line. Were you targetting anything specific with the plastics?

yeah i was.

mate of mine who i was with was using sme big plastics on pe3 and getting blown away, lost a few fish, landed a few so thought i'd flick one out on the light gear.

We were using jigs and plastics most of the day, with a little bait in between, plenty of action Sambos everywhere.

Even getting baldies on jigs, which ive never seen before.

One of the few Perth species here I have yet to get on a jig. (Though, I have two or three suspect bustoffs which would be...). Any particular actions, jigs or techniques that worked on them?

That's a real solid fish on 15 lb gear.

Yeah good fish mate. What jig did the Baldies eat? they are rarely caught on jigs down here, and i've only nailed one on a Shout Lighten 90gm.

Haha yeah i jigged a fair bit yesterday with no result apart from bakers and wrasse, using a shout. Bait was killing me.

more to the point 'what not'......

Wed, 2009-10-14 18:40

trying eveything mate....

plenty of fish on the sounder but none play....but even the blokes using bait (cheaters....ha ha) weren't getting much.

tried using the jig as if it was a plastic and leaving it on the bottom for up to 2 minutes, right through to speed jigging. swappped countless jigs but one thing i did notice was that with the lighten jigs i get mobs of 'bumps'...but no real strike.

but alas i keep jigging away..ha ha

what about you

and what you doing these days RE the shop?

Sorry for hijacking your thread Bodie, still awaiting your reply.

Sounds like your doing everything right Damo, just keep at it. You'll be outfishing the baitos in no time.

I still find that i get most hookups as the jig is dropping after an upward pull, so the next jig i am hooked up. So maybe try longer, and sometimes quicker pull and drop your rod tip nice and quick/low. But yeah u get lots of little hits and bumps.

the last few trips have been slow with jigs....

Wed, 2009-10-14 19:48

previous to that there was plenty of fish.

sometimes jigs work sometimes they dont and its all part of fishing.....

determined not to use bait so I keep jigging away.

its good to be out and finding plenty of good ground so no complaints here

We were using heaps of different jigs, weighted between 90g and 150g, 150g jigs were doing the trick. all fish taken on the up.
