Nice Rainbow Trout from Pejar Dam

Nice Rainbow Trout from Pejar Dam

Well while travelling round Australia I set myself a goal to get a Rainbow Trout , well first crack at the target and I picked up a nice Rainbow at Pejar Dam which is just outside of Goulburn in NSW , was pretty happy with myself .

Congrats on the trout. Mate first look at the photo and I'm sure others will say it: it's a beauty. Wouldn't be out of place in a mag. Goes to show you don't need a massive fish to make an awesome quality photo.

Rainbow?

Fri, 2012-05-11 22:35

I looks More Like a Brook Trout. Rainbows have more of a silver flank with out the dots on the belly. Someone tell me if i'm wrong? A Brook Trout is a far better catch than a rainbow on any day as they aren't as common. What time of year was it caught? The dark red looks like it was coming up to spawning time? Im a bit over an hour south of pejar and have seen some awesome fish come out of there, 7 to 15 pound browns and some very big rainbows. I've fished it a few times but have been caught out by the weather or just had a shit day with no fish.

Think they got it wrong.

I've caught plenty of trout around this area. Eucumbene, Jindabyne, Tantangra and heaps of the rivers nearby. Not a rainbow. Bloody nice looking fish but, Great colours. With the deep red on the sides and date of capture they are coming up to spawning time.

Beautiful Rainbow !

Mon, 2012-05-21 12:06

Nice to hear Pejar is alive again - was only a few years ago it was at 0% and was just a depressing puddle.

I landed my best ever fish there - an 8lb Brown - fond memories ! :)

pejar regular

yes a good fish, I was on the same lake with my 2 sons this time a few years ago, I did get a few, all of similar size and all males,i fished further towards the top end of the lake and look like going there again this weekend . Biggest buzz I ever got from that lake was when I told a mate all about Pejar and he said that may be the thing his 10 year old son needs. Getting bullied at school took away his self confidence and my suggestion of a weekend on lake pejar certainly turned things around. His very first fish of any kind was a 3.5 kilo rainbow, plus a few others slightly less in weight .There has been many trips since then with varied results,i guess accept the result and deal with the losses. After all those trips a friend introduced me to a farmer just up the road and he stocks his own lakes . For those who choose his farm stays @ $30 a night. Fish the farm or fish Lake Pejar! Almost guaranteed a feed of fish
