Latest on the Douglass Craft

I dont know if this got on the other thread, so for all those that are interested, put the DC in at Ocean Reef today to see how she would sit with the motor. I think with the fuel tank and fuel, it should all level out. By the way, the son wants to call her the 'Blue Flame' once she is painted royal blue. What do we think?

Previous name?

Tue, 2011-10-11 21:02

Did it have a name on it before you started doing it up? If so there is a train of though / belief that there is a process to go through before re naming the boat or bad luck will come to who ever comes in contact with it. Was a thread about it on here a long while back on what to do.

Yeh, the paint is quite dull and I just dont think brown is really a nautical colour. I might add my son presently is calling it the Brown Thunder. lol

Talking of that, does anyone

Tue, 2011-10-11 21:50

Talking of that, does anyone know a well priced boat painter in the northern suburbs? I can prepare the boat, just want someone to spray primer and topcoat.

New Sponsor - Cobalt Blue

New Sponsor - Cobalt Blue Marine!

They look good!  And it's always nice if we support the site sponsors.  We couldn't have the site without them right?

Check them out

Wed, 2011-10-12 08:32

Yes, I saw their ad the other day. I didn't think to ask them but I will.

Anyway, the pockets are going in this week, the floors are glassed and will be doing the tank in the next couple of weeks. So the long and the short of it is, the boat should be operational by Christmas. We have designed the interior to suit lots of fishing, but also to keep the family happy, that is capable of seating seven people.

The boat came with a HIN but was removed by the previous owner to do his own restoration attempt. Subsequently, he lost the plate. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for getting a replacement plate?

He is a licensed person to do this.

No hassle just bring all the relevant paperwork and details with you and I think from memory $55.

Finally

Thu, 2012-07-05 21:50

After spending time down at Mandurah at the Seashells resort, la de da, it was time I thought to change the outside look of the old girl. Not the wife, the boat lol.

Using International 1 part paint, I started by stripping the boat of all its paraphernalia;

Then, using the prekote and my old trusty conventional spray gun, I laid the first undercoat in white

That was yesterday; and today I laid the second white undercoat followed by 2part white and 1part top coat blue. It was finished off with the first coat of Lauderdale Blue toplac top coat.

It has now been parked away waiting for the weather to be fine for at least a few days to complete the second and third top coats. Then I start painting the top snow white. It will then be finished off with a silver pinstripe 25mm thick along the edge of the waterline. Further pics to follow.
