Nice work. I reckon it looks more like a burl than a mallee root.
Looks bloody good though. Agree about the foot rest. All you need is the drip tray underneath it for all the losing tab cards...

I lived in moora for a while and gingins just around the corner, both places are full of good mallee roots and i made 3 clocks while i was there. (just noticed he said it was from around gingin), could be burl but im not sure if its in that area. But hey me no expert on wood thats for sure. You might be on the mark.
