Respect

I just read the post on western Angler about fish handling skills. Like I said before very sad that you cant put a picture up these days without everyone analizing every picture and deciding that just because its not the way they would hold the fish that its gives them the right to dissrepect other people.Worry about yourself and stop acting like you are Mr perfect and never make mistakes.I have no problem with people voicing there opinions but theres a way of doing it with respect and not bagging people out to make yourself feel better.

I like your thinking Tapout

I reckon your on the money Tapout. I have decided to remove Wallys access from this site because he just doesnt seem to get the message that I won't tolerate the tact he takes in delivering his message.

I do things which I think are in the best interests of fishwrecked.com and its members and its sad that Wally has chosen to go about venting his anger about his access removal on Western Angler. Anyway, all that aside, fishing is what is important and I consider this another bleep in the learning curve of site moderation. This will remain a friendly fishing environment and I'll do everything to protect that, even if that means getting my name slung through the mud on another reputable fishing site. Fish handling is important, no doubt, but the message can be delivered without being offensive, education in my experience has always come from an environment which fosters, not criticises:

Agree with you there tapout. I almost wrote a response to the post on WAngler but decided I would keep my gob shut to avoid getting a stern talking to - or worse ;)

Instead, I'll just be spending a little less time there and more time at fishwrecked because I don't appreciate posts like that.

I have Jay, and I replied with what I thought was an honest, true and fair account of my perspective, since I was actually present at the time.

I believe they raised some fair and important issues, but feel they may have over-exaggerated and over-assumed some of their points, to the point of targeting and possibly even ridiculing me; a conclusion which I am guessing any objective reader might similarly draw. However, these are passionate anglers, who love our fish, and I do believe that emotions evoke very strong feelings that may result in strong words said. I most certainly still hold those that I know or have fished with before, in very high regard. Some might assume I have very little respect for the fish, but rest assured, this is most certainly false. For a fish that can be (mostly) dragged 120m (and even 240m) up and just swim off with little/no decompression issues, with merely a push back into the water (speared, is the correct term); I am always in awe.

However, we should also note the underlying issue raised though, as this is an important concern for the angling community and the species itself.

On my account, I believe that I practice catch and release to the fullest of my capabilities, bar a few isolated incidents where I experience a lapse in judgement or curiousity gets the better of me, or even a stray bad timing photo might serve to illustrate worse. I certainly hope noone presumes that these TWO individual pictures illustrates my overall practice, as I say that would be rather narrow-minded, as I strive to do my best.

At the end of the day, I enjoy my fishing, and I enjoy my fish, and I enjoy the company of anglers around me. And that is what I am going to stick by and focus on.

Thanks for reading my innane postings ;) I hope to share many more pictures of fish (both larger and smaller) with the community.

Pump iron to drop iron!

P.S. adam, I really appreciate your effort on my behalf, while I wasn't online to follow what was going on. thanks again.

The pics are of Kasey weighing the fish. Whilst I think its fair to discuss it and point out where improvements can be made, the holier than thou attitude that some people display wears pretty thin with me. I'm just glad that I created my own website where the focus is on the enjoyable components of fishing, not the negative!
