Ok quite recent then, did you catch them out deeper?  most of the dhuies are out deeper water At the moment, 40m depth has been quiet in the past few weeks.

have been trying out deeper but the best results are still inside the bank about 35 klm out.
Went out this monday and nailed a few more in about the same depth

Yeah, for us the shallows

Tue, 2007-10-30 22:01

Yeah, for us the shallows (inside the bank) seemed to be quiet and we were heading further out to try pick up some fish.  when the cray season starts and the whites are in the shallows should pick up.  There will also be pots on loads of the lumps in close.

Crays and Dhuies

Tue, 2007-10-30 22:15

I don't know about Dhuies following the crays. Always examine the guts of the fish I catch and have never found any sign of crayfish inside a Dhuie. Always small whole fish. I know lots of people say they follow the crays but I have not been convinced.
Anyone found cray in a dhuies stomach?

Yes they may not feed on

Tue, 2007-10-30 22:21

Yes they may not feed on them directly, but works more like a chain which affects where the dhufish are.

Been told that:
Many of the fish which are prey for dhuies feed on crayfish, so when the crayfish move so do the smaller fish which feed on the crays and then the dhufish follows aswell.

not sure how accurate that is, but I definately do think there is a link somewhere between dhufish and crayfish.

Dhuies n Crays

Wed, 2007-10-31 05:01

Hello Paul N,

I've only ever come across one Dhuie with a full size cray in it's belly. It was in a spot off Garden Island out the back of Carnac.

Cheers,

T
