Salti clone

Looks like Banax have taken a lead from the Saltiga range.

As the lady in Hong Kong market said to me, the Chinese can copy anything.

Anyone used one? Curious as to what the internals are like.

John

The first batch of GTs didnt like the salt water very much , more recent ones how ever are ok. Banax still no where near catching up to the likes of Daiwas and Shimmys.

Banax Reels

Fri, 2007-07-27 06:23

I hope the following clears a few things up about Banax reels and stops a bit of misinformation in the market for our product.

Big John: Banax GT reels are still made in Korea and are definitely not a Chinese knockoff. Banax has been manufacturing at their OWN factory since 1973 and are one of the the only reel manufactures to be awarded an ISO9001 certificate.

Internals are what makes any reel handle the extremes of Australian fishing. Banax has machine cut brass gears and brass pinion a feature very few reels  have these days. Ball bearing are all stainless steel and shielded proving to be extremely corrosion resistant.

Shizz: Very surprised to hear that the first batch of GT's didn't like salt water much. I can honestly say, I just asked our reel service technician if we have had any reels back due to the above problem mentioned and he said zero. Shizz if there has been a problem with anyone you know reels get them to send it back and the 5 year warranty will look after it.

As for catching up to the other two - Banax's quality speaks for itself.

Best regards

SteveB thats a pretty big write up mate but, are you rating them because you sell them or do you really think there worth buying over a daiwa or shimano reel? How many and what type of bearings do they run and whats the retail price? Cheers Chris.

Banax Bearings

Fri, 2007-07-27 07:38

Hi Spess

I rate the reels of course because we sell them but also because we get all the positive feed back from both retailers and consumers. Banax represent some of the best value for money in the market place. All you need to do is compare what you are getting for your dollar.

The GT series of reels carry 4 Stainless steel SHIELDED ball bearings - a must if bearing corrosion is an issue.

You will need to contact a local stockist for a retail price.

Cheers

I own a sx3000,  one of the best reels ive ever owned...retired now after about 10 years of service. I havent personally used a GT just heard the original SXs and Si's are a better reel, as they are pretty much bullet proof.

Wasnt saying banax is a bad brand, its just shimano and daiwa are in there own league, for the  average fishermen metal banaxs can handle most things thrown at them.

Thanks for clearing that up Steve. Since 1973 hey, Saltiga's must be cloned from you guys then.

Haven't used a Banax before so i was curious to know what they were like.

As a retailer of all fishing brands I can say that Banax has it's place in the market for sure. If people want a very strong low priced reel then Banax is certainly it but we do offer a choice for sure. It has all the brass internals that older original reels had to make them very reliable and strong. Whilst some manufacturers have gone to lower priced internals to keep price down Banax hasn't changed......."if it isn't broken dont fix it"

As for returns, I get "equal" amount back from all suppliers and found Gladiator/Banax very good to deal with, we sell the reels and my customers come back with praise........proof is in that.

Sound great, but i stick to what i know works and works well IMO. Even if it is just alittle more expensive to buy shimano, daiwa, penn and the like i know that they are going to last me the duration of my fishing liftime and if not theres a 10 warranty! Well on most stuff anyway....lol. I might buy one for the misses to throw around.....if she cant brake it ill buy 2!  lol.

Flip side!

Banax will save you $50 as a bare minimum against some of its rivals, offer a 5 year warranty like many and in many cases have more superior gears ie brass!

Each to their own but many people come into my shop wanting to buy a good strong reliable reel for the least amount of money!

hmmm im considering getting a reel in the future for jigging and driftbaiting and bottom bouncing... even amateur trolling off the back off a tinny...

preferring a spinning reel, reckon the banax (dunno which model?) would live up to it? maybe with say a jigwrex (just like the feel) spinning rod?

just to put in my 5c worth ..
when a banax rep first bought in the demo (before release) model of the GT reel i thought it was great - nice drag, gears etc.  it was a differant colour to the GT now and looked a lot more saltiga like . ... anyway .. we ordered in a few of em to sell and what turned up was nothing like what the rep showed us - the drag was not even close to the power of the demo ...
anyway thats my 5c

Yeh Spess they have their place, so do Shimano/Daiwa etc. We sell plenty of Banax and recomend them, again we find what they want in a reel and how much they want to spend. Banax have reels up to $225 approx.

The new Banax GT reels are very nice and a good up to 30lb reel, up grading the drag washers (like many ppl do anyway) is cheap and easy and will allow 50lb and full lock up if required!

You cant go wrong Rickets, we have the full range here!

P.S, we sell and recomend all brands, each angler has individual requirements thus needing a range of reels/rods etc etc.

NO , but for a reason .

I have allready got 3 X penn850ss spinfishers all with spare spools form 6 kilo mono to 50 lb braid , I really need a GT popper reel that can handle everything I can throw at it so my next spinner is going to be a Van Stall , I was going to get the new model Stella BUT it wouldn't handle the abuse I would subject it to  , They are good reels but I don't want to worry about it breaking when I drop it on the rocks or something silly like that must be why I like ugly sticks as well.

I wouldn't not buy one I just don't need a mid range spinner at the moment , I haven't seen any used out on Shikari either so can't comment on their jigging ability .

For the price this is a good buy for a regular angler , I just go extreme these days .

ISO 9001

Sat, 2007-07-28 11:08

My previous company went thru applying for an ISO9001 certificate and it was bloody murder, if Banax have it then there quality control is second to none , they have just gone up a few points in my estimation on their products .

MAV.

Sun, 2007-07-29 18:29

Ive had 2 SX5000 and highly recomend them. I lost one when I fell off the cliffs in Kalbarri and still have the other one at home. They have well out lasted any other reel I have to date. Ive caught so many fish on them and they have never failed to handle anything thrown at them. The one I have left has caught a 20kg yellow fin tuna with 6kg Trilene and didnt miss a beat. Has anyone ever used them for Jigging sambo,s and how did they handle it?

Good!

Mon, 2007-07-30 14:05

Yeh the SX5000 is one of my favourites for sure. The SX anti reverse is stronger than many reels as it doesn't run on a standard dog gear but a built in dog gear to the rotor which makes it fine for jigging etc but if your wanting to run 50lb plus then the more upmarket Si 5000/7000 are more suitable as it's worm drive for better line lay etc etc

How's the anti reverse on this particular reel , I havn't seen the internals so can't coomment, would be nice to hear from someone with experience ???

From what I have head about these reels they are in the same league as maybe a 14000 Spheros .

The Banax GT reels Mav have a large anti reverse bearing that is very similar to the Shimano Spheros therefore it would be just as strong!
