Yesterday's catch

Went out yesterday afternoon to pull my pots and a quick fish.  Funnily we got as many fish in an hour as what I have been getting in a whole day lately which was nice.

what got me though was that I pulled two pots on the same stretch of reef about 100 metres apart.  One had 17 crays, the other had 1!  Looking at those figures I would say it was just about definitely raided.  I don't want to be a dickhead and get all worked up about it, I got a feed and shit happens.  if anyone out there does need to pull other people's pots there is not much that can be done to stop them but it would be really nice if they could catch a couple of wrasse and top up the bait so the owner still had a chance of catching a few.  Thanks.

Nice bag of crays

Yeah, bloody thieves. At least they left one pot for the rightfull owner. I'm hoping to put my pots in next weekend so I'm encouraged by your success.

Blame

Could be that the second pot was dropped on a bit of reef that didn't or couldn't hold crays, too many times its never the fisherman's fault so accuse someone of pulling your pot instead of saying you stuffed up.

Maybe

You may be right Carnarvonite. That can certainly happen. However i have become very cynical about it after years of potting. One time my pots had empty cans of burbon & coke stuffed into the bait baskets. Not much doubt about that one.

 When diving regularly you'll

Sun, 2014-05-04 11:49

When diving regularly you'll see a nest with 30 - 40 crays in one spot then next to nothing anywhere within 40 - 50m.  Where your pot smashed it I would be marking that spot and dropping right there again.

Good day out though, I'd be stoked with that every time.

 Yeah I agree 100 percent

Yeah I agree 100 percent with carnarvonite and i should have included this on the post.  It could have been my fault when I dropped the pots, there may not have been any crays in that specific area etc..it didn't have to be that they were raided

In analalizing what may have happened And how i will prevent it in the future i have come up with a few things I can tweak in relation to placing the pots.

However one of the possibilities is that they were raided, if this is the case as I said before there is not much I can do about it except making people aware that if they did have to resort to raiding other people's pots it would be nice if they could refill the bait pockets

thanks
