Woodman Point Boat Ramp Security
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Fri, 2014-09-12 19:03
I am thinking of using either this boat ramp tomorrow or going to the point perron boat ramp in Rockingham.
Anyone had trouble with break-ins etc and what is the security like.
Also what does the parking cost at either boat ramp??

use point peron
point peron has unpaid security in the shape of me and my dog down there every arvo reading my books and helping out at the ramp

there have been a few reports about break-ins in those areas, just leave your car unlocked with nothing valuable inside and you'll be sweet. Or wait with petermac and kick arse!

I've gone down to pt peron
I've gone down to pt peron and then dropped past the ramp on the way back home to have a little skwizzy down at the rocks and I've never seen any broken glass or anything suspicious. I'd rather float out past garden island on an esky than park a vehicle let alone one with a boat trailer at woodys.

Point Peron Ramp - is this normal
For my first time try - I found the point peron boat ramp a bit troublesome on Saturday. The water was surging directly into the ramps pushing the boat a lot and thought the ramp angle seemed a bit shallow.
It was difficult to get my back roller on the trailer for my 6.1 m boat into the water without giving the backend of my prado a bit of a dunk in the surging water.(I Used the southern ramp)
Is this because of the conditions on Saturday or is this the norm for the PP ramps.
I have not had the problems I had on Saturday with many ramps I have used including tantabiddi, bunbegi, Albany, etc and it kind of surprised me??

That's normal for point peron
When there is a 3 m + swell under that it's fine normally .
The two ramps closet to the ocean can silt up with sand and become a bit shallow , bigger boats normally use the ramps closest to the sea rescue boats

Depends on swell...
...anything above two meters and it starts to slosh around in there. Some of the crew on here can tell you a few stories from a couple weeks ago when the swell was 5m+...
It's a good a ramp as any when the swell is down!

the point peron ramp
the ramp at point peron is full of sand at the moment don't try and launch there with a 2 wheel drive , saw a land cruiser struggle to get out today with his boat , better of going around to bent street ramp council had a loader down there today removing all the sand from the ramp

Woodies could do with a
Woodies could do with a security cam on a 30 foot pole. Could come out of our boat ramp money
Even Cockburn power boat club could have an IP cam over the area. Would be nice. $240 item

Just a thought
Recfish west some times have monies available for small projects to help with community fishing projects, maybe a security project at the public ramp at woodies might qualify for a grant. I have no idea what a camera on a pole would cost or who could be asked to monitor it. Just thinking out aloud

This is the cam at CPBA ..
This is the cam at CPBA .. which is good during the day but as you can see not overly effective at night with poor lighting , might be higher specs IR ones out there though . You would think cams at all problem areas in this day and age would be the go , sounds easy but I’m no techy .

Points for effort, but this
Points for effort, but this is laughable.
I'd be happy to chip in more than the standard membership fees for a better surveillance system.

Seen my membership fees double.
Seen my membership fees double since becoming a member, dammed if I would agree to them paying for camera systems to cover the public ramps.
If your worried about security at Woodies join the club, and your boat can be parked in the secure enclosure.

Big dollars
the problem with ir cameras is they dont work well unless it is completely dark the other thing with them is even a goodl ir camera is only efective at the most 4 to 5 mtrs and thats pushing it...you can buy ir iluminators but they are expensive the best bet is a good day/night camera with a security flood, colour by day and switches to black and white at night to give better definition

Cameras
Xstream Sercurity Solutions already have a system at Belmont boat ramp.
I currently work there and we are looking in to targeting boat ramps and working with marine safety as we are mad fishers and everyone deserves knowing there vechicles are safe.
