you can use whatever reel you like.

if you don't catch fish it is your own problem. the line will be more of a problem.if you have mono you won't feel bites. too light if fished wrong will break off and finally if not enough you won't reach the bottom, you need over 150m probably.

The rod will be more of a problem. a boat rod is typically less than seven feet, longer is awkward.  a cheap rod is fine.

obviously a purpose set up is better, but no need to rush and spend money on something you won't use. the alvey boat rod set up on port bouvard is fine and you don't need your own stuff.

remember you are fishing some good grounds there and there is a very good chance that the boat will land some good (i mean big dhuies) fish. make sure your gear is capable to handle big leads along with a big fish attached :)with ease. also fish with atleast 40-50 lb braid rather than mono to have less water drag so you can reach bottom faster and stay there. its not much fun reeling up your rig from deep water all day with underpowered gear.

bring your gear along and if you think the boat set up does the job better then use the boats

happy fishing

First step would be finding out th make/model/size of your big reel and what braid it has on it. Is it top shot with mono or braid?

mono backing and 10 kg braid

i have a full roll of 11kg mono as for the bait caster no idea on the mono strength on that but it is not a cheap reel

though i think my big reel i might put 500 meters of mono on
