Shark bay LB suggestions

heading to shark bay in about 2 weeks, gonna be camping up the north tip likely at bottle bay etc. have been there once before only for a couple days and caugth some small mackeral, tailor and long tom from shore all on metals. had a few quick goes with HB minnows (not really sure what i was hoping for but was just experimenting) but had no luck so stuck with metals mostly. tried a few soft plastics but either got nothing or ripped up by long toms (never thought id come across a fish worse than blowies!)

chucked bait out at night, got a sting ray first time and a tiny mulloway the next. anyone got some reccomendations of lures/bait/spots to try for some better 'eating' fish? remembering ill be stuck on land :(

Will you be on the peron penisula???  if you can get out to steep point (about a 4-5 hr drive, 4WD only and booking required), the land based fishing there is arguably the best in the world (along with pt quobba)...

fishing in the area has been from a boat.  I am told that Big Lagoon is good.  I have thrown a line in at the very tip of the peninsula, without great luck, but then again I'm no great land based fisherman either.  there are a few spots north of monkey mia.  my young bloke caught a good sized black snapper (blue lined emporer) from the beach about 1 km north of the resort.  I think it was a fluke because every thing else was about 6cm long!!!  it is just south of an area of the beach that is quite rocky.  there appears to be a weed patch about 70 - 80 metres off the beach but it is actually reef.  further north around the bluff i am told is quite good.

Hey mate

If you have a 4wd, if you can get up to the very tip of point peron it has always been worth it for me in the past

I've seen mackerel and tuna caught up there and I have caught sharks there off the shore casting in the deep water as well as all the usual whiting and bream in the shallows

I recall on my first trip out I was just exploring and didn't take a rod.. regretted it when I reached the point and guys were taking good sized pinkies off the shore

So head up there if you can, it should be well worth the drive

Cheers,

Sam

yeah at that time of year the southerlies mite be howling leaving you without many options. If thats the case then go to the very tip of peron peninsular and when i fished there a few years ago theres was kind of a sand spit type thing going out into the water and the water was shallow one side and a deep hole the other, we pulled a few large pinks out of the hole and got busted off a few times too. There were also a few small mackerel runing up and down beach destroying all the plastics you could flick at them. Also balloning would be worth a shot off that point if the southerlies are blowing. Good luck up there mate.
