Sadly, it looks like it is my turn to be done - they guy quoted in these following links has now stung myself

His username is now midnight fisherman - same phone number - hie quoted his name as Andrew from Albany
I have emailed Adam G about this issue

Got Stung with a bogus Stradic Ci4 4000
G'day
I was specifically looking for a Shimano Stradic Ci4000
There was a WTB previously on FW; he replied that he had one; I PM'd him
then about three weeks later I got the text
He is using a new username but I didn't note the phone number from before - thankfully not a huge expense like a sounder or Tiagra, but still a few cartons of beer equivalent.
I'll chalk that one up to [another] life lesson...
As I said previously - I will now report it to the Police - hopefully they can track based on phone number and previously supplied bank account

One thing that I do is check a sellers profile and how long they have been a member. If someone has been around a few years and posted on multiple fishing posts it’s less likely they are a scammer.
Do the same for people looking for detailed advice on fishing trips and areas. If they haven’t bothered to help others out over a period of time and have just joined up to ask questions I won’t give a detailed pm.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

But people who sign up and advertise expensive gear straight away is alarm bells.
Im a bit the same as dodgy, if someone messages asking for info etc without even putting a real name at the end, Ill generally either tell them that or not answer.
Many here know each other well online but never met face to face (sad aint it) but I would and have flicked money thru for a purchase, collect parts for me etc.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

If it is done through PayPal can they track it? Hope they can catch him backlash, pretty shitty thing to happen

Amazing how the ATO could prob track you down for a piddling debt , and the cops can have whole departments dedicated to
busting speeders etc , but seem unwilling or not able to bust a true criminal with a documented history of theft.
If he stole a pen from the mint , he would be in casarina with a saop around his neck by now.
Its the same with these guys ripping pensioners off , charging for cutting down trees but doing s.f.a
and dont get me started on dodgy builders , constantly renaming there businesses and ripping people off for decades!!!!

So this jerk got me with the Stella 4000 a few weeks back. Very smooth bullshitter. Said he was in Albany and I said I wasn’t interested in it if he wasn’t local. He offered a small deposit from myself and full payment to him upon arrival of reel. Sounded too good to be true...
against my gut feeling I transferred the deposit it went south from there. I was aware of what he was up to thanks to a post on here but it was a a bit too late. He got my coin and went cold.
i have however passed on all his details, fake or not, to the scam watch people at a state and federal level. I have also contacted members equity who he banked with and the fraud squad are onto him. I don’t think he will be doing it much longer, few serious offenses there and all 3 are very keen to catch up with him.
My advice, Purchase in person only and if you do make a deposit online use PayPal!!

i feel for the ones who got scammed. hard earned $ just to be ripped off. had a close call some time back but caught onto it in time. there are plenty of them out there preying on all sorts of people weather it be the pensioners or the wealthy. catching them is another problem all on its own.

Details from the other post included mob no. 0411260445 and his bsb is 086288, acc 435082121 (NAB Midland account) which is different to the details in the linked post. Seems he has several accounts with different banks.

Does anyone use it on here for transactions? Used it to send dive gear south a couple of weeks back and was a smooth sale. Pretty sure you re only up for postage costs if it falls through at the other end . At least you get the gear back and if the shoes on the other foot and no product turns up then you do pay at all. I never thought to do it in the past though will definitely use in the future.

Other thread had some of the multi contact details they were using. I looked into some of their stuff they sent this time around but nothing much. A google check of his phone number gives scammer reviews. Apparently he's doing the same on other fishing websites and Gumtree.
If you see anything suspicious, please report it so I can look into it.

This is common practice on a lot of sites.
You need a minimum numbers of posts, smallest I have seen is 10, to be able to post in the For Sale section. And don't let them change user names, make it a new account if they want to.
