Salmon trip

this weekend or next weekend my family are probably going to go on a salmon day trip. The plan is to get up and be gone by 4:30 or 4 from melville (what time is best?) and head off to bunker bay. I will get the binoculars out to see if there are schools and if there are people with salmon on the line. Then I will race down there and start lure casting at them.

if bunker bay doesn't have salmon, then we will head an hour south to Hamelin bay, and check if there are schools there. If I don't see any schools I will stay at Hamelin and put some bait out and have a lure rod at the ready incase a school comes.

i will have one maybe 2 lure setups and 1 bait. This means that me and dad or mum can fish for schools, and dad or mum can hold the baited rod. I will bring rigs incase there are no schools. I will have gang hooks with a mulie  (the rig I use for tailor fishing).

i will head up to Oceanside for a few lures, and then I should be ready to go. The current lures I have are a richter plug, halco roosta and a few twisty's (70g, 35g and 20g).

so can someone please tell me if this is a good trip? I think that it should be alright by research, but if someone lives around the same area, and does the salmon day trips, can you please tell me if that's a good idea or not? I don't have a 4x4.

Also which place is best to fish at Hamelin bay? Which is the actual bay?

Tripped over them you could

Tripped over them you could say.

5-6kg fish. 4 big hookup's, three busted lines and one landed after 30 minutes. Drag was set far too low though I didn't want to change it mid fight.

Three boats getting into them.

First time I can say that I found them first :-)

Hey lachie, il be in bunker

Wed, 2015-04-08 08:28

Hey lachie, il be in bunker bay from next wednesday to sunday (i go every year at this time) if you down that way next week end, shoot us a pm and I'll be happy to pass on some bunker bay knowledge and throw some lures with ya, bunkers is closer for a day trip and the salmon should be on the chew from dawn to dusk just a matter of where. Be shure to get some larger profile plastics (flick baits) or something. Just in case they are hard to tempt around the reef.

 Well anyway I have enough

Well anyway I have enough lures now lol. Thanks to Oceanside helping me choose the lures when me and my mates were soaking wet! I reckon I have a couple salmon slaying machines with the twisty's, richter plugs and the slim Jim.

Murky Water.

The ocean is a bit stirred up at the moment down this way and the best results for catching salmon is with a live herring. The livie attracts better than lures.
