Heard good things about the penn fathom and squall stardrag reels from my mates in South Africa. Could be worth a look!

As far as a surf casting

As far as a surf casting reel goes the Torium 30 is getting up there in size, most reels larger will drastically reduce you're casting distance, as far as improvement goes a Daiwa Ishidai Z40 or an older Trinidad 30dc would be awesome and I reckon the newer Trinidad 30a would go pretty well too but haven't used one.

I have a penn fathom 30 star

I have a penn fathom 30 star drag on my Poseidon and its taken an absolute beating. If I wanted a bigger reel id buy the 40. It is on par with the daiwa saltist but has an extra anti reverse pawl. I recently discovered the finn nor lethal star drags. Ive yet to play with one but they look the ducks nuts.
I also have a Trinidad 20dc which is very nice too. I was disappointed with the newer trinidads because they took the centrifugal brakes out.
