Penn Torque 300 Owners

Just wondering if anyone else with a new Penn Torque 300 are having problems with them . So far I have had it sent away three times and after a days fishing yesterday it will definatly be the fourth time tomorow , I have encountered something to do with a cracked drag drive shaft or similular ( sent back ), then it wouldn't hold over 5 kilos of pressure ( sent back ) , then held the drag on when it was backed off( sent away to the Professionals ) got it back and was pleased as punch untill yesterday had a few good fish on board when now the reel sounds like it is going to rattle apart from the inside out . It would be good to know if these problems were common place or if I just have a lemon . The only thing I can say positive about it is the service from the Buisiness I have bought it of and the service received from another buisness that I have taken the reel to sort out the drag problem , cheers feral

Penn Torque 300

Sat, 2008-06-14 19:05

Hi Feral,

Yes I have the same problem with my Penn torque 300 and am rather disappointed with it.  I have had it in for service heaps of times and all they can do is remove the salt and grease it up again.  It was an ebay purchase so I'm not sure if I can claim warranty, the shop won't take it.  It seizes up quite often and rattles on freespool sounding not very nice at all. :(  It has taken some good fish and some pain, but I'd expected more.  Mind you Gully hasn't had any problems with his 300.

Cheers,

Adam

My advice would be to ditch the penn and get an Ocea Jigger or Torsa......far better, proven reels...IMO
