Ocean reef - leading lights

Hi everybody

I apologise if this is in the wrong forum as this is my first post

I have recently purchased a boat after not having one for years and I have the gps coordinates for the gap in the reef when leaving from Hillary's but my question is do people use the leading lights as marked on navionics to depart from ocean reef when heading out wide or is there a better and perhaps safer way to head out through the reef

Many thanks

yes leads are number one-so long as you are sure of their identity of course!

BUt good practice is to use 2 methods of checking you are where you think you are.

Hilary's

Hilary's doesn't have lead lights , where as ocean reef marina does have north and South leads to guide you in and out of the marina and will get you outside the reef ,  Hilary's gap is another area and is not a designated safe passage into the Hilary's boat harbour ,   There is a passage through the reef due west of Hilary's but the correct way is head south to Centaur or head north to pick up the south leads from ocean reef.  Which is just north of the little island ,  best you check it out on a chart and confirm with GPS later.   iMO
