There was a big run of them last year bungeye
With an accompanying story that they had escaped from a fish farm. The most likely place to catch them is off the west end of Rottnest Island. They should be around now.

Theres schools of them off
Theres schools of them off Rotto. Sometimes 50+ in a school. Not very big at about 600mm average. Look for birds and ripples as the school move around a bit. Great on Bream gear, plastics or 30 gram metals.

Your best bet at a decent
Your best bet at a decent kingfish is west end either anchor and burley ive had sucess on fish up to 6kg and have been done by a few bigger specimens maybe nudging 10kg. There is the odd 20-30kg kingfish taken mainly by trolling the drop-offs in the 15-30m depth some blokes have had alot of sucess by trolling live squid with fish up to 30kg being hooked but rarely landed as its quite shallow and very unforgiving ground at the moment there is massive schools of rat kings up to a couple of kilo but there will always be some larger ones hanging around aswell.

Ive had fairly good succes
Ive had fairly good success burlying up around the shallow reefs, but as mentioned most fish are generally 2-6kg. West end has produced regulary and ive had a few from stragglers and mewstone. Just set the burley trail into the reef, crack an export and sit back and relax!~!

I was working schools of small tuna behind Carnac the other day and saw YTK to 80cms crusing in packs of 6 or 7 fish around the outside of the tuna. Hooked onto one, got him right up to the boat and he smoked me

heaps of kings around
heaps of kings around schooling atm off the 3mile.
the last 5 outings we have encountered them and atm they are mostly undersize, avg size atm is 54cm... soon they will be sized.
As for big kings all the ones i have encountered over 15kg where solo fish on the three mile... however last season dad shot a sambo of 21kg which was in a school of 5-10 kings/sambos.
To catch them like everyone else mentioned the west end is a good bet.. the fish there generally school more and are a gd 6kg+++ trolling halco laser 2m diver in a pilchard colour. anchor up and burley hard (i mean 10kg of pollard oil and another 10kg mulie cubes) then live bait is the best otherwise drift baits only. I would be using a gd 3 to 4m of 100lb mono leader (as a minimium), they do go straight for the reef so lock up that drag and use some heavy gear.
as for 3mile i reckon you cant beat mindarie IMO its rare not to encounter a kingfish there.. problem being is most of the time they are just rats...
