Future of the old freo traffic bridge

I was just googling the "fremantle traffic bridge" and have come across some info that suggests that they are considering serious plans for the bridge.

Here are the options bieng discussed 2007...

The six options are:

Option 1: Retain existing bridge, but replace the navigation spans and deteriorated components
Option 2: Retain existing bridge, but replace the navigation spans and deteriorated components and incorporate bridge widening
Option 3: Construct a new standard bridge next to the current bridge, leaving a section of the existing bridge as a heritage and recreation site
Option 4: Construct a new bridge that is a major entry statement for Fremantle, leaving a section of the existing bridge as a heritage recreation site
Option 5:  Construct a new standard bridge and retain the existing bridge as a pedestrian/cyclist facility
Option 6:  Construct a new two lane standard bridge and retain the existing bridge as a 2 lane bridge with improved pedestrian/cyclist facilities

Here is the 2007 website link....

I just hope what ever mods are made that they build a walkway and platforms to fish off under there and much safer lol

Recfishwest Policy on Fishing Jetties, Wharves and Platforms http://www.recfishwest.org.au/PolicyJetties.htm says:-

Quote:
Recfishwest policy is that every possible opportunity should be taken to add jetties or fishing platforms to all bridges..... Such access for recreational anglers should form part of the developer's or authority's obligation to contribute back to the community.....

Recfishwest registers an interest and requests to be advised and to be consulted about all proposals for new or upgrades to jetties, bridges, wharves, groynes, waterfront developments, etc. Recfishwest will assist with the general requirements for such angling facilities and will provide advice on specific proposals to ensure that these give the best possible facilities for recreational anglers.

The Fremantle Traffic Bridge is yet another example where Recfishwest needs strong support from recreational fishermen, and where my footer:-

says it all.

Good work Terry.

I lived and fished in Japan for a while, and they have really catered for the recreational fisherman by always adding fishing platforms to structure in the ocean.
