First cyclone for the season

Just had a look at the BOM site. Look like we have our first cyclone for the season, even if it is out near Cocos, it still counts.

Nice and early......

Hmm

Wed, 2011-12-07 22:46

Watch that low sitting over the tanami during the weekend, if it pushes out to sea rather than go inland we may get a weak cat 1 or 2 over the coast. Unlikely though, still a bit early and not sure that water temps up enough yet for something serious.

Absoutely guarantee a cat 5

Thu, 2011-12-08 04:58

Absoutely guarantee a cat 5 by wednesday based on my last 3 years experience - ie we pull in to exxy on monday - been a cyclone within 2 days of us arriving every year - coming a month early to try and avoid it and look what happens - I can understand if you boys run me out of town otherwise a few of you had better put the hand up for a deckie spot for some beaky chasing - Jeff, Ads, Tim you lot around next week and keen?

Long range

Thu, 2011-12-08 08:20

Heard of a long range forecast that has Carnarvon getting 6-8 inches of rain around the middle of December and with this cyclone predicted to turn in to a big rain bearing low it could be on the cards.

Yet another flood is also predicted for this coming season.

Thu, 2011-12-08 13:34

bugger missed that one even forming! I must  be working to hard lol

But yes an ealry one and coming stright east to the coast, I wonder how much puff is in the sea to get it up and going? Sea temps have been high all winter and summer looks like headung the same way!

 been watching that huge low

Fri, 2011-12-09 12:26

been watching that huge low pressure off the south east coast ( Victoria)

Dam thing is very simular to the one that caused the havoc and sank boats in the tragic Sydney to Houbart Yaght Race some years back,

Could we see the same bad weather again in four weeks if this thing does not break up?

cheers

Tony
