would love to land a giant siamese carp.

Fished Lake IT Monster in
Fished Lake IT Monster in 2009 and caught a heap of species. Definitly the lake to go if you want predatory fish. Especially monster Amazon Red Tail Catfish and Arapaima.

Bungsarum has got plenti of
Bungsarum has got plenti of giant mekong which had been hooked gazillion times and yet still take the bait. They pull steadily but hard. If you wanna test your tackle that's a good place. Some of them still have hook and leader attached to their jaws and yet they still take the bait we offered.
You can lure cast but results ain't that good.
Best to hire a guide as he will mix the dough/syrup mixture in the right proportion to entire the fish, rig up, cast and strike for you. All you have to do is fight the fish and he'll net it for you.
You can hire an attap hut at pond side and chill up with your missus when the day gets too hot or you simply wanna have fun with some chics you met on the street.
I was testing fishing using my PE5-6 popping gear and nearly got pulled into the pond with locked drag.
Other species that can be caught including aligator gars, siamese carp, patin, freshwater barra and arapaima but I think they are seasonal >??

haha you can count on Eric to
haha you can count on Eric to mention those love shacks next to the pond
One dodgy mattress in the middle of the floor on the second story of the hut. I reckon you'd be best not to shine any UV light in there or you might get a fright.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Been going to bunsamran for
Been going to bunsamran for last ten years. Got to do the yearly parents in law visit. Fish are getting bigger and had to build ramps to lift the buggers up. Like all fishing, somedays are smoking with few minutes in between fish. Takes a lot out of you in the heat. Somedays are slow with one or two in an hour. But it's basically a big restaurant. Enjoy the food and cheap beers while sitting back and wait for the guide to get you the fish:) not as nice as IT. But it's sort of located in Bangkok.
also it's getting expensive with entry fee, rod hire, bait and guide etc....but I guess it's cheaper than paying 250 bucks for a charter here.
cheers

I've fished Bungsamran a few
I've fished Bungsamran a few times - you want to book Mr Boonsong - great guide - get's priority to best spots. I landed a monster meeknong there, and lost a real solid 30-40Kg carp wharfside...
we used to book one of the shacks up the far end - take a carton, and stay for the day - can order food etc - even a seven seas tackle store there
I did a thread on it ages ago on FWA forums...but they don't seem to exist anymore :(

The food was amazing, some of the best I had in Thailand, delivered straight to ya fishing spot along with a few cans.

the tackle shop there is good
the tackle shop there is good as well, all the best gear.
fairly standard price but.
if you do go take your own gear, the ones they supply are shit.
was funny seeing one of our hired rod and reels go for a swim, the guide set it up but so we didn't have to pay for it.

nah mate - 40lb pacu - that
nah mate - 40lb pacu - that pirahna looking fish is a smaller one I landed. The one I lost was double that one !
Got the bugger to the surface after an epic fight, then he made a final lunge for the pylons - a little outgunned on a 2-4Kg rod ! ;) - was hooking them on a ball of sticky chicken rice moulded around hook :)
Hooked an arapaima on a gold bomber, but guide quickly told me to bust it off or have to pay the 10,000bt fee for chasing arapaima !
*** another tip for fishing Bungsamran - especially if you want to target Carp - go on a wednesday/Thursday - was Boonsongs recommendation - because it's pretty busy on Friday & the weekend; the fish get full up; so by mid week, they're getting hungry again ;)
