2.5 foot bronzie on 6lb braid

Tue, 2013-06-11 20:35

2.5 foot or smidge more bronzie on 6lb braid and my whiting rod - gave me a suprise and alot of fun (and a few meals to boot)...

Maybe hooked something larger on the same rod a few times but came to grief - can't win em all!!

62lb Mulloway

Tue, 2013-06-11 21:00

62lb cleaned mulloway on 15lb line, 10 in the morning and from off rocks, took about 1/2 hour to land it and what seemed liked hours for Squidder and me to carry it back to the three wheelers.

68lb cleaned mackie ON 25LB off Whistling Rock, hooked and landed it solo while a mate was busy catching a GT that made the mackie look small

Both caught in late sixties when I was young, dumb and full of @#$

8 kg Shark Mack

Wed, 2013-06-12 09:47

Last year i got this 8kg ( estimated ) Shark Mack just of Freo . Caught it on a tiny plastic intended for herring , on a cheap 1000 shimano with 4lb braid, 1 -3 kg trout rod and a 8lb leader. Was pretty stoked to land it and got most of the fight on video .

Cheers Grant .

If braid is not igfa rated then it probably breaks at more than the weight specified, if it is 6lb baid it is the thickness of 6lb mono not the strength, my 50lb braid on my bottom bouncing gear breaks around 70lb,

Yesterday I caught an estimated 500lb Blue Marlin on 30lb mono using spin gear in 50m of water just out from tantabiddi... likely would have been a new state record but we set it free. might sound like bullshit but its true - will do up a report with pics and vids when im back home this weekend!!

Prob a 8kg

Fri, 2013-06-14 13:42

estimated GT on 8wt fly with 8pound tippet. Was fishing and having fun on little GTs at Pond Zero intake on spin outfits. I had the fly rod in the boat and decided to give it a crack, but didnt change the leader/tippet, which was still set up for Mandurah hezza's. Tied a pink clouser instead of a Crazy Charlie on, and the biggest GT off the pack nailed it.

Broke my fly rod (a cheap one) but still managed to get the grunting GT to the boat. Didnt weigh it but roughly calculated on how much bigger it was than the models up to 4kg we caught and weighed.

Sambo

Thu, 2013-06-20 21:16

A few years ago I hooked a 20 odd kilo sambo at the back of rotto in 65m of water on my 6lb bream gear(trying to catch bait with a small bit of squid and 1/0 hook)   It took me an hour and a half! I didn't budge it off the bottom for 30 minutes. Cheers
