The Ban , too long ?
Submitted by Handi 1 on Wed, 2013-12-04 08:05
Just want to know what the feelings out there are on the demersal ban . Are there too many species on the list ,timing that just puts too much pressure on the end being the 15th dec ,then all are chomping at the bit to get out there . Most people finishing work around that time thus putting maybe more pressure on not just the fish , ramps and fishers risking it in dodgy weather ? Something to get the tongues goin !

ban should really be when the
ban should really be when the fish are actually suppose to be breeding ie during the Christmas period not that it would ever happen. Have to think whether your children's children will be able to catch the same fish we do when thinking about it

Plenty of other species to
Plenty of other species to target while it's on so no need to head out in blowy weather. It's nothing to do with breeding it's to do with taking the pressure off for two months a year. good time to get ya boat and gear in order and yeah I'm on the Xmas piss wagon this time of year anyway ;).

Don't have any real issues with ban or dates however
I would like to see them drop it for landbased fishing though....

I think the 2 month ban is a good idea, perhaps bringing it forward to cover the breeding period would be wiser.

Nah the ban has been pretty
Nah the ban has been pretty good boosting the fish stocks for the next year. Maybe try switching things up a little like going for tailor in the river I hear they're starting to heat up, or find some good KGW spots or even new lumps to try when the ban opens. But yeah as Sea-kem says this is the time to get your boat and trailer ready for the upcoming season.

New Torsion axles, hubs, bearings the lot. What better time to do than when the ban is on. Problem is, they wont arrive from Melbourne until next week, so only limited time before the season opens!!! Plus 2 Xmas functions Friday 13th, Saturday 14th Makes for a really hung over weekend before the start of the season

Don't get me wrong , I'm for
Don't get me wrong , I'm for having a ban . But surely they don't all breed at same time or in that time period as Notorious said. Walfootrot , not really asking for me to be ripped apart ,didn't say i was chomping . Not after a response like that .

No issues for me plenty to do
No issues for me plenty to do .. it's not as if I put much of a dent in stocks anytime of the year lol .
Just to confirm ..15th is inclusive so have to hang on until the 16th .. Cockburn / warnbro snapper until the 31st Jan but the crabs are go from the 15th Dec .. think that's right .
Might be a good idea for newbies not to practise launching around sunrise on the 16th .. could be a few adrenaline pumped fishos on the edge needing a fix .

You can get cream for
You can get cream for that...... dam the ban..
If they banned the taking of each fish during their breeding season, we would have one ban after another, think it would drive you nuts.

Ban is good.
The increase in shark attacks has pretty much co-incided with when the ban was introduced. More fish, more sharks, less people....fish win on TWO fronts!

Prety sure shark migration
Prety sure shark migration paterns have exsisted longer than the demersal ban! Sharks are in tune with fish spawning paterns. Not wether or not we are catching fish or not !

Hardcore fisho will fish no matter what
And hardcore it wouldnt change me when the ban is on. Noobs (having moved down from Karratha Im probably one at the moment just cruising to get spots
) on the other hand put plenty off pressure on the stocks over the holiday period. Holiday period starts when ban finishes, and this is also the breeding season?
I truely believe that the ban should be on when fish are breeding, but the political backlash that would cause by a December-Jan ban etc!!! - I cant see that happening. But it does take off 18% of pressure on the stocks with the 2month ban so all for it.

Been a lot of
small, big boats out here in Leeman while the Ban has been on, makes you wonder what are they bringing in as never see Fisheries here, well we've never seen them here in The ban, as always down there letting the dog have a run on the beach.
I get so peeved off when I see the professional going out in the 2 month Ban and killing the pig, yes I know its his profession but come on amateur's are not fishing, why should the pro's fish in the ban. They or he get onto a school of demersals, whamoo they are gone, so much for them breeding in the 2 month ban when the pro's can catch them.
