And the weeks' winner is....
Me. For f**kup of the week, that is. What's your PB for attempting to fill a fuel tank through a rod holder? Mine is now 75 litres. Talk about mind on task-not. I had unscrewed the gunwhale filler, even, then stuck the nozzle in, and carefully watched the rod holder for signs of blowback Only spotted it when I noticed the fuel running down the forecourt, two 40mm bungs open. Judging from what i recovered by bucket through the bungs, around 25 litres went down the road. Mal the owner said it wasn't the worst he had seen--that stood at $400 worth. I blame those new markers at the rivermouth, I'm still shaking my head at the waste of $1.4 million.
Oh, and for anyone heading up this way, the river started running a bit last night--not much in it, but it should stir up the fishing around the rivermouth, both land-and boat based.

You won't be the last.
its a dangerous situation really. Had a mate do the same and ruined his carpet.
I got talking to a local at Kalbari while waiting for the fuel station to open.
when the pumps started I grabbed a hose and lifted it to the fill hole. My mind was making alarms which I couldn't work out, and thankfully the local said "you have the diesel hose" . Geezus that was a bit lucky.

Happens way too much!
Thankfully I haven't done it yet, but you KNOW it's gotta be a conspiracy between the oil companies and fishing rod manufacturers...you'd think either the rods (and therefore the rod holders)or the fuel filling nozzles (and therefore inlets) would be square, just to stop the confusion.
It's big business trying to suppress the little bloke, I'm tellin' ya!

through the filler but still on the floor
Picked up my brand new trailcraft, stopped at the servo on the way home and poped the bowser filler into the filler pipe and started filling. After a few minutes noticed fuel coming out the scuppers, the doppy fitters hadnt connected the filler tube. Ruined carpet and 60l of fuel gone. Fixed under warrenty and compensation for lost fuel but what a way to start with the new boat.
I would rather be fishing

Mee too
I thought I was the only absent minded boatie that could do something that stupid. Happened to me after owning the boat for over 10 years late last year. Lost 40 litres but carpet seems OK.
