always take the gaff or net

learnt a valuable lesson today. hooked onto another unusual fish for these parts. launched the boat from my local quick drive bit of birley in only 8m of water. got 3 kg whitings. all around the mark. then hooked onto something that started screaming away. managed to turn it and after 4 or 5 good runs on really light gear up came a cobia!!!!! looked around for the gaff........no gaff. looked for the net...... no net.  the cobia would have pushed the legal limit, and an estimate of 3-4 kilos. with only 8lb line and 10lb leader i couldnt just lift it in. so i ended up losing it trying to grab the tail.  so lesson learnt.... dont forget the bloody gaff or net. :-(

Put it this way you would've been more pissed if you didn't see it. I had a massive Tailor on on the beach once, caught on a prawn intended for a Herring had swam it up to the small surf near the beach when someone decided to help. Tried to yell out to leave it but too late they grabbed the line and snapped it .....Pisssssedd off. I guarantee you won't let it happen again ;)

North Mole one night, huge King George whiting. Person next door offered to help and tried to kill it by breaking its neck??? Next minute, The slippery bugger went down through the rocks, not called a kidney slapper for nothing! Frustrating stuff

 Ouch, that's gotta suck

Ouch, that's gotta suck mate! Fishing solo one day and ended up with a big dhuie boat side, net was on board but out of reach and with the adrenalin pumping I decided to get a few wraps of the leader and lift it in (12kg's), then the fish had a big kick and took a dive and ended up pulling the leader through my hand and slicing my finger to the bone! I ended up netting it after that and will never do that again!

not good at all. would have been beter not to see it at all. with our boat the net never left it for any other reason other than washing it. gaffe and net always stayed on board.

My gaff and net always lived on the boat to until some one decided they needed it more than me. They now are removed after every trip

Did a similiar thing in Exmouth. The outboard had problems while launching at Learmonth Jetty, so while dad fixed it i went for a flick for some bream on plackies of the jetty.

Hooked a Spanish Macekerel that would have gone size on 8lb mono with no leader, on a 3 inch Squidgy only for it to bust off as a stranger tried to tail grab while holding on the line! -.-

Not the best fishing memory!
