Abrolhos

Just wanderining what the go is when staying at Abrolhos? Is it ok to pull up on a jetty in the arvo and throw a swag out for the night? We were planning on going up in the next couple of months in the off season. Any info would be appreciated.

what he said

get caught on someones jetty without permission (lodged in gero beforehand) and its a $400 fine from memory.

Even if the owner is there and you know them which is a bit harsh and over the top-though I dont know of anyone pinged like that.

Often Fisheries cruise round early in the morning checking-I know a couple whove been pinged like that.

You'll often get checked back at the ramp on weekends, and if theres 6 of you on a centre console, they'll be a bit suss and looking close.

I have several friends who work out there, and its pretty perplexing that they regularly get broken into-by who? Noone knows, but they bash a hole thru the fibro, leave a few half eaten cans and may have a pissup then leave it open to the weather, rain water tank open etc...

One of my mates tells me if someone rang and said "we got stuck in the weather and ran out of food etc," he wouldnt give a rats ass, but it seems to sadly just be pure vandalism.

Just be self sufficient, it can be done on small boats-ask Rusty!!

yeah it is for sure, theres even some public moorings scattered around but for small boats they are quite exposed in a breeze.
If your going in the "off season" which now is outside the amateurs cray season you need to lodge a form at Fisheries Gero.
Drop me a PM before you go and I can give you some more up to date info if you want?

Moorings

Sun, 2013-06-23 12:56

I noticed last weekend a couple of moorings at the southern group but they are not on the Abrolhos pamphlets.

There were 2 next to middle island. Does anyone know if they are public moorings or private?

I usually anchor up around there as it is a safe entrance and exit in low light, is good anchorage ground and provides some reasonable protection.
