8'-9' shore spin??

Hi all,

Any opinions on a 8'-9' carbon shore spin rod? Not too exxy, say around 150-200 but could be swayed for the right rod. I was looking at a blue wilson around the 8'( can't remember the name of it). A Nano XT shimano, Catana, and a Starlo are all that I've seen but would like some honest opinions and what problems if any on different rods before picking up one for my 5000 okuma salina.

Cheers

I've tried several around

I've tried several around 8ft6, using a battler AGS shore hunter at the moment but my fave would probably be the Azusa 862. Might stretch ya budget a bit but an awesome rod for throwing any lure up to 40g.

The guides on the Shimano

Thu, 2014-12-11 18:23

The guides on the Shimano Catana 9' shore spin will corrode eventually, even if you wash them.  Corrosion spots haven't affected function at all, and if it does they can of course be replaced, but it would be nice if they were a bit more resistant.

I think there is a good one around that size in theFWA series. Talk to the guys at Oceanside.

got the catana recently as a cheap for now option and tried it out at exmouth, nice action and did the job well, still yet to get anything big on it. the impact nano xt feels alot better in the store. while my guides r still in good nick id beleive Irp1 as my starlo has corroded over the last few yrs, still works great tho.

A mate has a stradic 5000FJ with the 9ft Starlo classix, awesome combo. I love my 7' Starlo Classic 2-4KG for bream, I would definately get the Classix

Zing will fit your price

Thu, 2014-12-11 21:09

Zing will fit your price range, I have an MH 9ft teamed with a Stradic 5000. Casts up to 75 grams, but that is at the upper end of what I would try. I am not looking to change this combo.

The brother has a lateo pirate, slightly lighter rod than the Zing. It is also good, but wouldn't cast as heavy a lure.

The new Catana's look the goods (they are black), I had the older purply blue in a 9 foot which did alright, but the zing was a marked improvement.

Will definitely go look at the Zing next break in either a SM or SH. Has anyone had any experience with an Okuma Xfactor 902SFM ? Thanks for the info on the Catana as my last 8' rod was a lemon and just a waste of money .

Cheers

Also does anyone know anything about a Wilson blue steel surf lite. Its an 8'6" 8-20lb and can cast up to 65g in a 2 pce. What I mean is has anyone got one and swear by it.

9ft FWA. 2pce, 6-10kg. Rated

Sun, 2014-12-14 15:33

9ft FWA. 2pce, 6-10kg. Rated cast weight is 30-70 grams but you can push it up to 80 grams or even 90 grams if your careful. Mines been smashed on rocks, bounced around in the ute & caught some cracking big fish over the last few years & the only damage has been a few small scratches from it being smashed around over a reef when I lost my footing. Cost is about $180.

I have an 8ft Daiwa

Mon, 2014-12-15 09:22

I have an 8ft Daiwa Tournament Master-S 2 piece that I love.. casts 40-50g twisties a country mile. Goes well with 5000 Stratic FJ. Well under $200 or maybe you can pick up a second hand one for less like I did from another FW member :)
