5m ali boat. Where should I stay in Exmouth

Heading up to Exxy in May and was wondering where should I be staying. Mate and I will have our wives in tow and they are thinking  a house in the Marina , we are thinking a chalet around the lighthouse caravan park or Yardie caravan park. We have a 5m ali. Will be happy getting tuna and macks and not to bothered about bottom dwellers. Seems to be the go to launch on the western side and fish behind the reef but was wondering if there are many pelagics caught on the gulf side thus saving a fair hike with the boat each day if we lose out to the women. Just remember...'a happy wife is a happy life' ;-)

I thought it was  "A happy wife,  is one who stays at home " haha . Youll be right mate...start at dawn and the girls can relax into the morning and you can meet up in the arvo for drinkys, theres nothing else for the girls to do in Exxy, sounds great ! Im not a expert on Exxy offshore but yeah they catch hlongs inside the gulf including Sailys, Tuna, Macks etc . In fact I got my first macky trolling just out beyond the naval jetty many years ago.  And once your out there its not far before you are heading out the western side anyway.

Maybe we will leave the women at home, set up the camping gear and be free to perve on a few backpackers.

ray white

If you go through Ray White, remember to mention that you booked through fishwrecked, they aren't sponsors anymore but it would be good to get them back on.  Plenty of options for accomo, I'd look to go with something in town, then atleast you can fish the gulf if the west side is blowing - just gives you a few more options.

Stay in Town

Tue, 2013-03-19 13:21

I would definitely stay in town mate and going through Ray white is the way to go and they have a large amount of accomodation to suit any budget but do get in quick.

Plenty of tuna bust ups in the gulf if you want to launch the marina and as mentioned above you will pick up mackies at the Nor West reef out from bundegi which will be easy to launch from with a 5m ali, do watch the tides though cos as we discovered on a real low tide you have buckleys of getting out and then it is a little drive back to the marina after you have dropped someone off to tow your trailer to meet you.

If you launch from bundegi it isnt too far to shoot around the point to helby bank (very easy from tantabiddi) and that would be where I would be heading for mackeral it has never failed to produce for us....get them in quick though plenty of those pesky sharks around.

Good Luck.....not many better places than Exmouth in my opinion :)

Stay in town if you can, it's

Tue, 2013-03-19 14:01

Stay in town if you can, it's only 30 odd minutes to Tantabidi and less to Bundegi, don't be afraid to fish outside the reef in a 5m (if you have the safety gear)

Macks in 30-50m water, Blacks and Sails in 50-100m and tuna so thick you can walk on them at all depths at times.

If you have the fuel and the weather is good, go out to the islands, some good fishing out there both on the east and west side.

It's a bit of a stretch to be

Wed, 2013-03-20 09:47

It's a bit of a stretch to be calling the accomodation at Lighthouse a 'chalet' - sure, it's perfect for a blokes trip; but I'm sure the divorce papers would be sitting on the table if I booked the missus into lighthouse and took off fishing.... :)

Talk to Ray White - we stayed at osprey villas last week - across the road to the pub, boat parking, close to town + boat ramp, air con, pool etc

It's only about 20 minute drive to Tantabiddy; and even if it's windy, inside the reef offers some great fishing for spango's, goldens, occasional GT, bonefish etc, it's also a great spot to take the ladies - lots to see - turtles, great coral/snorkelling etc

Not many tuna in the gulf at the moment, but that can change. some good queenies around, and lots of light gear fun on GT's small goldens etc
