4 strokes

 Hi All

I just got back from 2 weeks in shark bay and kalbarri and spent a smallness fortune on fuel on my 2 stroke and it is making me look at upgrading to a 4 stroke. What are the best 4s and how much would a 150 - 200hp set me back?

Recently went from a 1992

Recently went from a 1992 70hp 2 stroke to a 4 stroke yammy myself, hell of a lot quieter, no fumes but best of all less fuel.

Now using about half or better of the fuel. just came back from a trip to Smoky Bay, carried 2x 24 litre tanks (used to sometimes throw in a third as backup) and on this trip never had to change over to the second tank and had 4-5 litres remaining in the first tank after each outing.

Apart from the savings in fuel (and space) it has really opened up some options as far as increased range goes. Was looking at putting an under floor tank in (to save the clutter of up to 3 portable tanks on deck) but now don't see this as being worth the trouble.

Best brands - can't go wrong with Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda (but as far as I'm aware Suzuki and yammy are best re fuel).

Fair outlay for a 150-200hp but when you consider the quietness, reliability (assuming your 2 stroke is an older model) and fuel usage you aren't likely to regret it.

My suzi 175 uses the same amount of fuel as my yammie 35 on a 4.1 poly (2stroke) -go figure about 1 -1.2 L/nm depending on load in Boat(27 ft ali)

i got the new yammy f200g with fly by wire and i use about 120 litres to go 115nm for a days fishing. it cost me 26k to repower, 7m plate ali. imo definately worth the upgrade to a four stroke.

I bought my 2010 model 150hp Yami 4 stroke 2nd hand for $8000. Has 2000 hours on her and is the BEST thing I ever did! Doubled my range (180L tank) Averaging around 1-1.2L per km cruising at 20 knots

best 4 stroke

I have 2 Suzuky's and they are great. BUT all 4 strokes are about the same so i sugest that you use your local dealer that you have a good relation with and buy that brand. Happy fishing

Mines not a 4 stroke

But an Etec. Changed from an old Johno 115 to Etec 115.

You will never regret it either way (4S or Etec). Less noise (you can hear each other speaking at WOT)

Doesnt smell or blow smoke (Etec uses oil but not a bar on the old Johno)

Fuel economy I couldnt believe. Fishing off Dampier a trip to a specific spot use to cost us about $80 in fuel. With the Etec it cost $30 for the same mission, and obviously gave us a much larger range and we ventured much much further and found some extra ground.
