2stroke Tohatsu help

 Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone lives near meadow springs and spare half an hour, I went out this morning and had no issur. Stopped the motor and went to restart and there is nothing, the motor will tilt up and down. The radio works,

I can here the choke going in and out, just not Mechanically minded and don't have enough cash to leave it at a boat service centre to find out the issue?

It is notin gear when I try to start, and there is plenty of fuel?.

Is the motor

Tue, 2013-02-05 13:49

Is the motor turning over at all ?  I have had two seperate problems that sound simular.

1 = There is a fuse inside the motor cover next to the main group of wires, it is hard to see and is inside a water proof fuse case.

2 = I had the nutral saftey switch fail ( this stops the motor starting in gear ) Because it failed the motor would not turn over (in or out of gear. ) Ichased the wires and bypassed the switch easily by changing the electrical plugs over .

I hope this helps , sorry i dont have the motor anymore so cant take a picture for you .

pull the plugs out and see if

pull the plugs out and see if u have a spark, if u dont have a spark u may need a new coil, coils work when cold but once warm they start to play up, with out spark your motor will not start,

"Stopped the motor and went to restart and there is nothing"

If it wont crank (Im assuming its electric start but you havent given ANY engine information other than Tohatsu) then the coil will have jack to do with it.

Even so there are quite a few things to check first even if it has no spark.

Sorry mate Im not in Perth though but dont go stripping bits off til its properly diagnosed or you'll end up with a box of pieces only to find its the deadman switch or something stupid

Pop into Mandurah Boat Auctions, ask for Cam, tell him Neels recommended and I am sure He might sus it out for a carton etc.

At least you will get a diagnosis about the problem.

Neels
