2012 FW Exxy comp
Hi Crew,
Had a few Q's about 2012 Exxy FW comp so thought I'd put up some dates that I'm thinking and ask a few questions:
When are the Easter (term 1) school holidays for 2012?
What are the Easter dates?
For 2012 I'm thinking of capping the invitational at 20 boats, nice and manageable. All previous teams get a spot if they want one but I may consider a few extras depending upon circumstance.
The dates I'm pretty locked on are:
Saturday 14th April, Sunday 15th April and Monday 16th April 2012:
Sat 14th:
4am : 1.9m
9.30 : 1.3m
4pm : 2.2m
11pm : 1.1m
Sunday 15th
5.30am : 1.8m
10.45am : 1.4m
5.30pm : 2m
Monday 16th
12.30am : 1.2m
7.30am : 1.8m
1.30pm : 1.5m
7.30pm : 1.9m
Awesome tides for easy retrieval in the afternoons and lowish for launch but still no dramas. Half moon on the lead up which is my pick for surface activity, rising tide for 2 of the days throughout most of the day and one day with a dropping tide in the arvo (take your pick which is best, I know which I want.... :)) ) Only consideration is coral spawn for surface activity, but I'm sure that it won't be too big a drama and is really too hard to factor in.
I will put up another post when these dates are locked in, so please don't book just yet.
Cheers,
Adam

Thanks Spence
Good Friday - Friday 6 April
Easter Monday - Monday 9 April
Autumn (Term 1) - 6 to 22 April 2012
Gamex 10-17 March 2012. Briefing 10 March, Fishing 11-16 March, Presentation 17 March.
AIBT 19-23 March 2012. Briefing 19 March, Fishing 20-22 March, Presentation 23 March.
So its either the Sat 31st March, Sunday 1st of April and Monday 2nd of April with these tides:
Sat 31st:
3.30am : 1.8m
8.40am : 1.25m
3pm : 2.1m
10.30 : 1.1m
Sunday 1st:
4.45am : 1.7m
9.20am : 1.4m
4pm : 2m
Monday 2nd:
12am : 1.2m
7am : 1.6m
11am : 1.5m
6:15pm : 1.9m
Effectively the tides are the same as the 14th, 15th, 16th and its the same moon as well. Just need to decide if its to be in school holidays or not. March puts it more in realms of cyclone season and means there may be some lingering crowd from the international (unlikely due to gamex being the week before that). But it also means it won't be anywhere near as crowded as soon. Soon as school holidays started this year things went nuts and its near on half hour wait at all the main ramps to retrieve (unless you get lucky). School holidays does allow some of the younger members to compete though, so would like your thoughts.
Cheers,
Adam

Holidays
Holidays is my selfish vote. Would love to be part of the comp. We will already be there during the easter school holidays. I know most of the boys would prefer out of hols. I will just have to change jobs.

Been in consultation with Matt
And barring any unforseen trips away, I am certain Team Goldmember will be a starter in 2012.
My personal preference is outside of school holidays so they can't flog you peak rates for accom, but not fussed either way......

School holidays is a possibility. I will be down for AIBT so could leave to boat down for a few extra weeks if the Billies are on.

We've pencilled in the 1st week
Team gates has pencilled in the 1st week of April for a family holiday anyway so we'd definitely be looking for a spot if there's any vacancies....we do have some flexibility in our dates, though, so as soon as the dates can be locked in, that would be awesome.
As mentioned previously, queuing up for 1/2 an hour to launch and retrieve every day might cause some 'ramp rage'.
Accommodation will be at a premium during the school holidays so as soon as the dates are finalised, we (like everyone else) can make our reservations.

I'll vote for outside of school holidays and I'm not fussed if it is early April or late April. I guess the later dates would be the safest bet for good weather but it will be busier around town and at the ramps.
You pick it mate and we'll be there.

Ill be up there for about 5
Ill be up there for about 5 days either side of 7 April, so if it ends up happening in early April and there are slots for teams available, then count me in (team members to be confirmed!).
Dan
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Accommodation
Just a little heads up... i work in one of the caravan parks.. and for the easter holidays we booked out very very quickly for sites and Chalets.. so i would say that if it is booked anywhere near the school holidays book you accomodation as soon as the next season prices become available. Our normal opening for booking sites for next year will be close to Novmeber.
The only thing we had left were about 30 powered sites but they were for carvans only as they were slabs.

Deepwaters widow on the weekend til the youngest is old enough!!!

Wouldnt be a better time latter
I have always thought this.
Early in the year, cyclone season clash (you never know), Southerners not freezing their @ss#s off yet. Why not make it latter in the year, or is it April- May Set. Just my thought but in May-June you have no risk of cyclones, the bloody easterly risk almost only (unless the ugly northerly pokes it head up).
Is this why its at this time of year?

Dates
Looking forward to those dates Adam.
Talked to a few mates who were up at Exxy for the Easter Hols. They said there was a 40- 50 min wait at the ramp. Out of hols is looking good i say and i am a teacher. If the dates fit and there is a spot on a team, i will fly up if i can get one of those super skywest specials.
Have to agree with Huggy, you have it very good at the moment Simo. Must be the best fishing trip/month you have had. I hope that 100litre has catered for the amount of fish you have been catching. Very impressive Simo.
