Have been seaching for a boat and decided to get a 12ft or 14ft deep V tinny, but cant decide between the two, most of the time i will be operating inshore and up rivers but on a good day head out offshore and will only need to carry 2 or 3 people and some fishing gear

If your thinking
3 people go the 14fter. More room = more comfort.

launching considerations
if you dont anticipate ever having to carry it down to the beach to launch (as per red bluff and some others) and you can afford it - go bigger every time
not like the running or towing costs are going to be significantly different
i got a 12'7" as it was the BIGGEST tub that me and a mate could carry - never needed to do it, but good to know i can.
whatever you get get ample horses on the ass end, no substitute for that. good luck

Yep, something around 4.2. I had one, 4.2 tiller steer etc with a 3cyl 35hp Johnno on the back and I could easily handle getting it into and out of the water by myself. And if I got stuck out and the weather turned, I could get back in a hurry.
Cheers

I've got a 3.7m (12 foot) quintrex dart, mainly for taking over to ningaloo campsites on the cruiser roof, biggest tinny I could fit up there comfatably. Great deep hull that is sweet inside and out of the reef... Can be dragged up the beach fully loaded...with an inflatable keel roller. Also got a trailer for creek bashing when I'm not taking the family and camper. It's got a 15hp merc but could handle 20hp no worries. Gets along nicely.

12ft
I'd go with the 12fter, they are the ultimate size travelling tinny IMO. Like Woody I had a Quinny Dart and loved it's versatility and ease. I've often considered selling the Spirit and going back to a Dart or similiar.
